Very Demure, are we ?

Thanks to Jooles from Chicago, we all know how to be demure, cutesy , considerate, and mindful… Girls. Her tiktok video of her explaining how she gets ready went viral on Aug 2, 2024, and from then, there wasn’t any stopping for this on all social channels.

She, in her fun way in this tiktok video, was celebrating her version of femininity. But is that being feminine for us now.

All the above are double edged sword… as per me in today’s world.

Demure webster definition is being modest, shy, and reserved. “Be demure, be mindful” trend became famous even Kim Kardasian to Deepika Padukone using it and top notch brands as well. And now Jooles is fighting for trademarking of her term as she calls it now “very demure, very mindful”. Next time you use it, please pay up to a bank in Chicago.

All thru our growing years and beyond we are taught to be demure, don’t raise voice — why bring attention to you, don’t dress like that — what if you would be harassed or cat called, why go there itself — so no consequences, don’t express your feelings— you could be manipulated. So it’s better to be demure and reserved was the mantra taught. I would like to think otherwise, be opposite of all that… express, don’t bottle up, dress as you please and go where you want.

Yes, there would be opposition a few times, and there could be some irritants who might trouble you by cat calling, flashing, or even caressing. Put on voice cancelling earphones, see when they flash and ignore, and if caressed, just prick back with the grown nails or pins.

A few times, as per my experience, could be stifling, but then it becomes empowering to self. The self becomes more assured of the fact that you can be anywhere and in most situations.

No qualms in the second part of her patented statement, be mindful, is better for our dear self. Celebrating that to the fullest.
