Remove, change or accept
“If you find your “here and now” intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally.” — E. Tolle
Until recently, I found many situations intolerable and removed myself from them. As per my understanding, there are no pros
(remind me if any), and the cons, as I can say, are that an experience is lost, as simple as that. It would always be an escape, but if you are grueling in it, an experience is what it can turn into. Of course, the learnings are lost.
Changing something requires a lot of work, and it isn’t easy. You grapple with where to start the change. Sometimes, it could be a habit change or a trait change that has been etched into your being for more than four decades(in my case), and thus, you cannot distinguish it from you or you being it.
Accept it totally — this approach is still challenging. How can I? The rebel in me fails to conjure this approach. Yes, there are situations that aren’t in your control that can be accepted, but the fleeter in me always takes the patli gali ( easy route in Hindi) instead. Acceptance is a lot of deciphering.
For now, changing seems to be the vibe! To start with, let’s change the cushions from here to there or the response to specific questions. What say?
What works for you?
