Pop Stars of Today — unpredictable and crazy.
The pop culture stars we see now in 2024 — there is no rhyme or reason why they are assumed to be famous. We all discuss, diss, analyze, mimic, and meme them, but we still cannot dismiss them.
In India, many have come and gone. Some have stayed in the social-media-limelight…. is it really limelight?- for long enough for us to enjoy their eccentricities.
Their allure is amusing to this GenX, and I wouldn’t say I would like to dismiss them as yet another fad. But amuses and intrigues curiosity in me. What makes them so? Are they exhibiting their unique skill as we are levitating to them? Are they giving you something unique knowledge? Are they entertaining you? Are they tapping into some weird corner of theirs that is intriguing to us? I think that it …. we can’t ever go there, they yoyo into that seamlessly and without much effort. We can never enjoy that dance of intermingling fantasy with reality, which is more on the fantasy side.
One of the recent examples who still makes a flutter here and there is Urofi, with her fashion revealed in random places. She breaks into being a Cinderella in the middle of a puddle or is covered with only post-its in the middle of a busy Mumbai road. She reveals her creations, as she calls these experimental designs, anywhere and everywhere and ensures they are featured on all major channels. What makes her this phenomenon? Her courage to be what she is and her attitute to be this skimply clad and take that flak when she is ridiculed. But what do we call of these? Weird quotients with numbers, Is it?
Another mega star who followed suit was Orry. He flaunted being with all Indian Bollywood celebrities; he is supposed to have been their classmate in Mumbai. So he suddenly and casually started appearing in their pages with them and in his with them, too. Thus, he shot to fame by standing in his signature pose with one of his well-manicured hands on the chest of his celebrity friend with his best right profile for us to see. What makes him so? His personality? His Handsome, well-built figure? Or Is it his dialogue delivery or the way he presents himself? None of these. But his weird style and all the more atrocious comments, in which he said he is plotting his own social media death and extolled about his minions who appear for him for events, create content for him, and do other chores for him. All of this, so that he can mill as much content, as we want to have a slice and pie of him. So there was a demand for that, so he employed his minions.
Now, the stage belongs to Ms. Passi; her style is a mix of Indian Maharani and Egyptian queen with a crown or at least a tiara intact. Can’t believe such style divas exist in India. She is incorrigibly positive; is it something else? What makes her affable? There is something that makes her to be listened to. There have been at least ten podcasts with her in the last month. And in everything, she says the same thing about her beauty, very affluent life, ever-giving husband, and early marriage. But every time it is listened to, she is mixing something new every time the same content is churned out. What is that? I need to know this … I am a content manager; what secret ingredient is she adding to each content?
This intrigue about all of these stars is what keeps them viral and bombing the internet!
