Damn! I actually see you
I love when someone compliments my personality instead of my looks. Wow you actually see me.
Most of the time, we are attracted by good looks and maybe an impression of the personality as well. When someone walks into a room, you actually turn around to see them, and this is major because of their personality, which pertains just to looks and a certain aura that he/she might exude. First impressions, as they say.
Most times, that initial wow wanes when we start interacting with people. By then, we might have known one of the outer layers of the million ones. We reveal only that much when we interact with someone new. We start making a story about the person from those impressions we perceive. Most times, we can term them as the very skewed views of a person, mostly peppered with perceived notions of ours, conditioning, and maybe sometimes a limited amount of people we interacted with before. Here, we don’t see the actual other. It is a reflection of us which we see, as wise says.
Most of us aren’t ready to see the actual other. I am not kidding. In my journey with mental health, when I hit one of those rock bottoms, most of my associates were in denial. Their question was majorly “ How can you?” “Why would you, with all you have?” or even “It’s just exaggerated, you actually are fine, distract yourself.” and the worst being, “ You are overthinking!”…
