Callipygian pursuits

The word “callipygian” is a term that describes a shapely rear end. It comes from two ancient Greek words that mean “beauty” and “buttocks”. The word was used to name the statue of Aphrodite Kallipygos, the Greek Goddess of Love.

We have many words which says the same thing bum, butt, booty, peach, ass, behind, caboose, tookus, bootay, buttocks, posterior, bottom, glutes as my fitness instructor would call it. And we all have it.

Now when walking on streets, in the name of street photography, I catch people from their rear ends. Have a facination to do it. Have often wondered is it that I like that part so much. Na… maybe a shapely one would be admired would not to the level of documenting them.

What I do by this sleuth photography is just catch that moment of my walk, may be a story which I made in my head about the person in front.

That she is in a rush to get somewhere

Or that she is on a office run, wearing her uncomfortable stilettoes and very tight skirts.

He might just have finished a run, can see sweat dripping.

He is standing on the seashore looking into the infinity after a good workout

She is pushing her walker in her almost comfortable footwear, glad she is still independent.

So from the rear I make a story for myself.

Here are some of such stories for you to make of their booties
