BalanceForBetter — yet another aspect of it.
This women’s day there were talks on #BalanaceForBetter, always felt aren’t we over obsessive of such things on a single day, Or it could be thought of as this as well, at least one-day such things are put out in open to thinking/ponder. After all the thinking, what happens after that is questionable. Do we charter some actions for the coming years…. ! In a meet-up which I went for, after the discussions, some self-affirmations were noted down. Something is better than nothing I would say. Good that as a group they didn’t look for others to do something for them, but found ways to re-emphasise themselves, the course of action to better themselves.
My thoughts on this comes from a slightly obtuse angle and born out of some experiences. #Balanceforbetter, what does it really mean to me?
It means that I get to enjoy life experiences without guilt. Being a mother is a guilt ride I am told and I experienced it and got wallowed in it as well. Maybe because I was told by people around that is how motherhood is, but now I realise not so much so, it can be enjoyed with the right support and delegation. Which I realised quite later in life and having lost some initial years of career to it.
Another more subtle aspect of balance is when some professions need you to be socially active and that brings in the leads which are much needed for any business. All know that we have these after hour parties just for that and so are many events arranged for the same, and so is the never-ending smoke/chai breaks which are prevalent. So when a woman does these how is it looked at?
If you intend to do it, you might as well develop a thick skin to ignore comments like “Aren’t you outside most of the time?” , “Is your headache because you had a drink last night?” “Is it very essential to have that drink/smoke with that person?” … If a man does all of this, it is considered part of the job and his family even considers that it is for his career progress. Why otherwise in women’s case… I tend to think!
