Avoiding me.
Avoiding who one really is, is a long-drawn process that could start as early as childhood. This could've been incorporated to fit in. The world of systems seems to be made for Type A personality, with characteristics being high achievement, competitiveness, and impatience being prominent. Self-control is the best of qualities that is appreciated.
Most of us start off to be a professional which is safer and predictable. The nonlinear journies which could be creative pursuits are feared to be burdensome and nonproductive. And thus not explored by most, although the path which is most ideal for most of us could be that. The confidence in pursuing a nonlinear path is never encouraged, mostly because of a lack of knowledge on it and it might require the mentors at a young age to invest in each of the individuals a bit more to understand them and guide them. The systems we have do not allow this luxury and thus all and most of us are in factory-like systems which create workers who think they are achievers in comparison to others in the conveyor belt to somewhere.
Creative pursuits or interests do crop up at a young age, which is hushed around as a mere hobby and not nurtured. All through childhood the inkling that “I would like to do this and that” does crop up, but the system needs to submit a report, so better get going with it, so that the wrath of both the institution and at home is managed. At a later point in time, you feel like a fraud who has cheated yourself of believing that you are what you are now. Most of us end up in tech courses and business schools…
